UWF Outduels LMU, Wins Fourth-Consecutive Argonaut Invitational

The Argonauts turned in the second-lowest Argonaut Invitational score in history

COMPLETE RESULTS

PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the second-consecutive day, the top-ranked UWF men's golf team had a stellar back nine but this time it came versus a pair of obstacles – fourth-ranked Lincoln Memorial and a 20-mile-per-hour afternoon wind at Pensacola Country Club.

For the majority of the day, UWF and LMU went back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than two strokes. That all changed over the course of the last five holes.

The Argonauts seemed to handle the winds better and turned a 2-shot deficit into a 6-shot victory, finishing with an 18-under-par 846 score – the second-lowest total in tournament history and 16th-best in program annals. UWF had rounds of even par, 8-under and 10-under this week. The team played the final 29 holes of the 54-hole event at 23-under while winning their own tournament for the 14th time overall and each of the last four that have been contested.

It marked the second team title for UWF this Spring to go along with three runner-up performances.

Individually, UWF's Jake DeZoort finished in second place at 8-under-par 68-68-72=208, recording his second runner-up in five events. He now has four rounds in the 60s and 10 of 15 rounds at par or better.

Alejandro Restrepo posted a third-place effort after a 66 on Tuesday allowed him to move nine spots and a 72-71-66=209 total. After a bogey on his first hole, he proceeded to make 10 pars and seven birdies, punctuating his round with a 25-foot birdie putt and fist pump on the par 3, 18th hole.

Elias Haavisto also performed well in the final round, moving into eighth position with a 74-69-70=213 score. Carlos Marrero matched him with a 70 on his way to a 76-72-70=218 and 19th place.

Cameron Bonner tied for 45th at 74-74-76=224.

Felipe Garces ended his tourney as an individual competitor in sixth place at 69-68-74=211. Hayes Durant was 74th with a 77-74-82=233 performance.

UWF will now turn its attention to the postseason, beginning with the Gulf South Conference Championships, which will be played April 18-19 at the RTJ Golf Trail Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Ala.
